March, 21 2012 I attended a Jiu-Jitsu workshop with the Jiu-Jitsu legend, Maestro Rickson Gracie, at Cleber Jiu-Jitsu in Huntington Beach, on March 21. What an awesome experience it was to train with one of the best Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world! I’m pictured here with my Jiu-Jitsu instructor, Cleber Luciano and Maestro Rickson Gracie.
Jiu-Jitsu Kids! April 21, 2012
OC Kickboxing & MMA’s Jiu-Jitsu Kids competed in the annual Copa Pacifica Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament in Westminster California. The event has been a southern California staple for the past 15 years and like last year the Jiu-Jitsu Kids had an excellent showing.
Some notable students include Nick Lim who won first place and submitted all of his opponents by arm-bar. Steve Caday Jr. also won the gold with two come from behind victories. Hunter Turner, Elvira Ramirez, Jonavan Asuncion, Travis Duncan and Kohl Hertz also took silver. Hannah and Danny Knapp took bronze in their divisions.
All kids had excellent matches and look forward to the worlds in June.
Sunday, January 29th
OC Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts took four kids into the North American Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (NABJJ) tournament in Carson California.
It was a great day for the team with all four kids medaling in their division along with three out of the four making it to the finals.
Luis Ramirez took bronze after a tough fight with a very experienced opponent. Travis Duncan took silver after fighting through three rounds and a come from behind victory in the semifinals. Hunter Turner also took silver in a very tough, very close final match after defeating his previous opponent via rear choke. Elvira Ramirez proved that no matter what belt she has around her waist she is a world class competitor as she took gold in her division in typical Elvira fashion, submitting her opponent in the final match by way of Ezekiel choke from the mount.
These four set the tone for a great 2012 competition year. These four students and a whole lot more will be at the friendship tournament next Saturday in Huntington Beach and at the Kids Pan American tournament on February 19th. We hope to see you there!
